Savage Sword of Conan #146-150

Before we get started…
CONAN SAGA 84 wrote:NOTE: This story and the next few allegedly take place in Nemedia, but as that is impossible for several reasons, they must have occurred over the border in Brythunia, which makes Talliar’s forcing his people to refer to him as “emperor” all the more ludicrous. He calls his city “Belverus,” but has obviously merely named it that after Nemedia’s actual capital.
Roy later refers to this city as “New Belverus.”

SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN #146 (March 1988)
By Charles Dixon & Gary Kwapisz

APPEARANCES:
Conan, King Talliar, Queen Auraldia & her handmaidens, Grakiar (Talliar’s aide), Collito (Auraldia’s aide), gladiators (inc Mankiller, Ferix), slavers (inc Oleeta, Retikus, Starag), gladiator trainers (inc Orestes Galvus, Vestalia), New Belverus residents & guards (inc Tophius), Brythunia residents (inc Orten) & guards, lions

When he performs he impresses queen Auraldia, who has him sent to her bedchamber. After they fool around Auraldia makes Conan a hero gladiator instead of a villain gladiator, and he becomes famous while still fooling around with the queen. Eventually King Talliar becomes jealous and wants Conan dead. At the next contest Conan is ambushed, but is saved by the mute Kushite Mankiller. Orestes orders the other gladiators to gang up on Conan, but he’s killed by more friends, Vestalia and Retikus. When Conan and friends begin to gain the upper hand, Talliar orders the lions released. Conan climbs up to the king and throws him to the lions, who eat him. Auraldia orders the lions killed to save Conan’s friends. The crowd cheers for Conan.

Lord Otradades and Princess Corialla recruit Conan to help them find a horned god (a horse unicorn, not a rhino) in Hyperborea to revitalize the king’s vigor. After being chased by Hyperborean wild men, they enter the valley of the horned god and notice the Hyperboreans won’t follow. They find piles of human bones before spotting the massive horned god, a giant horned horse. The beast impales Otradades with its horn; Mengus knocks out Conan and escapes with the captive Corialla.
