Post by Clive_Reston »

We've backed up from the "X weeks later" period in this week's titles: X-Force #43 and Jean Grey #1 both take place during the Hellfire Gala (the latter is mostly taken up with a what-if scenario), Realm of X leads directly out of a scene in the middle of the Gala (with Curse, Dani Moonstar, et al.), and Invincible Iron Man #9 continues the shortly-after-the-Gala events from the previous issue.

Meanwhile, Immortal Thor #1 has a two-panel scene of Thor fighting some random Orchis types, for what it's worth.

There's two appearances I think Clive missed: Wolverine in Punisher 9-12 and Jean Grey in Doctor Strange 3. Those issues occur not too long after AXE, but they aren't important or anything to the X-books. The Punisher and Daredevil books are very interconnected at this point, and to some extent, Doctor Strange and Hulk. I'd be happy to explain why that's the case.

The second story in Amazing Spider-Man 31 features Kamala in her new X-Men costume. Spidey tells her how she died as well as his secret identity, but X-Men 25 (23 - 25)-FB has everyone forgetting Kamala ever died, very soon after the Gala. Is there any place where the story can occur?

I think it was just her close family and friends. So between when Emma did it and her new series. Bruno didn't know she died, but one of the bystanders heard she did.

Emma Frost is vague enough about what she did in X-Men 25 that it can be interpreted as "I have messed with people's memories in the specific ways that will be most beneficial to you."

The whole Wolverine/Ghost Rider: Weapons of Vengeance sequence (the Alpha and Omega issues, Ghost Rider 17 and Wolverine 36) is at some unspecified point after the Gala.

X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #102 is "three weeks" before this year's Gala; #103 is "two weeks" before the Gala. Love Unlimited: Gambit & Rogue Infinity Comic #66 wraps up that 6-parter, which takes place at (gestures vaguely) some point in the past.

Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant #1 is another "ten weeks after the Gala" story (and Kamala Khan is on a summer fellowship program). X-Men 26 mostly takes place after MM:TNM 1, though its first page is a flashback to the Gala and pp. 2-3 are a flashback set between the Gala and Invincible Iron Man 8.

Immortal X-Men 15 is long enough after #14 that Xavier's beard has grown more, but also "Day 9" of the Krakoan diaspora, which suggests that time passes differently wherever they have found themselves.

Scarlet Witch 8 involves Joseph, and is not terribly long after 6-7 (and therefore sometime after the Gala) but before Immortal Thor 1.

A surprisingly light week, X-continuity-wise. X-Men Red #15 picks up an unspecified but probably short amount of time after #14. Likewise with Astonishing Iceman #2, X-Force #44 and Children of the Vault #2 for their respective series, although big enough things are happening in CotV that I imagine they'll probably have to be rolled back somehow. And X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #104 is, just as one might guess, "one week" before the Gala.

The second issues of Dark X-Men, Uncanny Avengers and Alpha Flight all continue from their respective first issues. Wolverine #37 is sometime after the beginning of the current Incredible Hulk series--I'm guessing after the current storyline, actually. (At a quick glance, Predator Vs. Wolverine #1 doesn't seem to be directly tied to current continuity, though I could have missed something.) Uncanny Spider-Man #1 appears to be around the same X-weeks-later timeframe as the other X-books right now.

X-Men Annual "#1"--jeez, the previous one during the same X-Men series, less than a year ago, was also #1, but incrementation seems to not be the way of Annuals these days--and, by extension, the rest of Contest of Chaos, are definitely after Captain Marvel #49 and before the 2023 Gala.

X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #105 brings us, by a commodius vicus of recirculation, back to the evening of the Hellfire Gala.

One thing to note- in Captain America 1, Steve talks out a loan from Tony Stark to purchase a building. Tony's broke throughout Fall of X. So the Captain America series must take place either before or after Fall of X but not during it.

We finally have a little glitch in Fall of X continuity! This week's Invincible Iron Man #10 picks up from X-Men #26 (they actually overlap by a few pages), and gets to Tony Stark's wedding to "Hazel Kendal." And in Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant #2, which starts the morning after the previous issue (i.e. the morning after Kamala's first day in the program at ESU), Kamala runs into Tony, who she knows is now married to Emma Frost. And in X-Men #26, Kamala was... already in the ESU program.

(The easiest fix, I think, might be to open up a gap of at least a few days in MM:TNM 2 between pages 7 and 8 where X6 26 and IIM 10 can happen, and... uh, Kamala just happens to be wearing the same clothes in both scenes? Or maybe to assume that the scene in X6 26 is Kamala visiting the campus before she actually starts the program there?)

Otherwise, this week, Jean Grey #2 is right after #1 (still during the Hellfire Gala), and mostly taken up by another what-if scenario; Realm of X #2, after its first scene, jumps to "X weeks later"; and X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #106 picks up the Sunfire/Redroot thread from X6 24... which is to say that it takes place before the "X Months Later" flash-forward at the end of that issue.

Or Steve calls Tony to get a loan from the Maria Stark Foundation (against his Avengers salary) rather than from Tony's personal funds.

Immortal X-Men #16, X-Force #45 and X-Men #27 are all, conveniently, an unspecified but not gigantic amount of time after the previous issue of each. X-Force is sometime after the current Uncanny Avengers storyline; X-Men is sometime after the recent Fantastic Four #4 (and presumably before #12); Immortal X-Men looks like it's going to be connected to Jean's timeline from the current Jean Grey miniseries.

X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #107 continues the Sunfire story, and moves it forward "months."

A little surprisingly, there don't appear to be any mutants at all in G.O.D.S. #1--the closest thing is a passing mention of Sevalith.

In the brief sequense when the 616 Avengers are fighting the Dino FF, Iron Man has the Red & Gold armor (Mark 70, right?) that he melted and dumped at Feilong's office after the Hellfire Gala (he uses only the grey stealth armor), so I think that FF 12 Is still before Hellfire Gala.

This week's X-Men Red #16 is an unspecified but not super long time after #15, and we are unlikely to want to place any near-future appearances of Port Prometheus after it. Wolverine #38 is also a more-or-less standalone, although (like last week's X-Force) it's after the current Uncanny Avengers squad has been up and running for a bit. (And it appears that Legacy House has gotten their hands on Cy-Cat, Professor Plod and a dead Moira clone, which... I'll keep my eyes on other titles to see if there's a point at which they could get into Sinister's lab! X-Men #27 suggested that Orchis might have gotten a Cerebro via Legacy House, and Cy-Cat and Professor Plod are still around the lab as of Immortal X-Men #16.)

There's also a backup story in X-Men Red, with Sunspot and Shark-Girl, which (as an editorial note indicates) has to be sometime before this year's Gala.

Three print X-comics this week, eight next week; whyyyyyy. Children of the Vault #3 follows #2, and increases my suspicions that at least some of what we're seeing in this miniseries is some flavor of illusory. Invincible Iron Man #11 is just after #10, still very likely before MM:TNM. Astonishing Iceman #3 continues in the same hand-wave-y "X weeks later" timeline, though it has a footnote indicating that it's at some point after Love Unlimited Infinity Comic #49-54. The Sunfire sequence is still going in X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #109, and appears to have caught up to roughly where we are in the print titles (though not yet to the flash-forward in X-Men #24!).

Speaking of weird temporal stuff, the preview of next week's Jean Grey #3 makes it clear that what's going on in that miniseries overlaps with Immortal X-Men #16... which means that the desert/White Hot Room sequences in Immortal are probably not happening at anything like the same "time" as the New York/Krakoa sequences to which they're adjacent. I expect that there will be some Dominions complicating that further. That's what Dominions do, right?

Despite the flood of new X-books this week (and... there's only one next week?), chronological stuff within them mostly seems pretty straightforward. The third issues of Alpha Flight, Dark X-Men, Uncanny Avengers, Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant and Realm of X, and the second issue of Uncanny Spider-Man, follow on directly from their respective previous issues, with no special placement considerations. (Alpha Flight even clears up the continuity clash vis-a-vis Feedback and Marauders.) Jean Grey #3, as the preview suggested, indicates that it's happening simultaneously with a late scene in Immortal X-Men #16 but also, more or less, the Gala; time gets weird in the White Hot Room.

Meanwhile, Maddie Pryor and the Limbo Embassy turn up in Amazing Spider-Man #36 (presumably sometime during the ten-week gap), and Storm makes a final-page appearance in Immortal Thor #3 (presumably next issue will indicate whether that's before or after what's happening with her in X-Men Red).
