Sub-Mariner 8 flashbacks

This issue contains several flashbacks. Most of the story is a flashback as a narrator relates the events.

Only one flashback is covered. Spanning (2:2 - 5:4) (7:4) (8:3 - 20:2) it is a prior flashback bridging issues #7 and #8.

Then (5:5 - 7:3)-FB-FB covers Sub-Mariner first meeting Betty Dean and the android Human Torch.
5:5 Namor emerging out of water to fly over NYC "There lies the city of the accursed surface-men"
6:1 "Look up, land-crawlers... and see him who caused this holocaust"
6:2 wrecking train tracks
6:3 - 6:4 Betty Dean in civilian clothes stopping policemen with futuristic guns and reaching out to Namor
7:1 Namor vs Human Torch on a bridge (= M/MC 8)
7:2 Namor lifting a car to block an attack by Human Torch
7:3 Wrecking a fire hydrant to extinguish Human Torch's flame

Then two panels cover WWII and Namor's post-war departure from the surface world.
8:1 fighting German army
8:2 Namor leaving Betty Dean

Review:
6:1 and 6:2 have been repeated by Roy Thomas in his synthesis in Saga of the Sub-Mariner 3 and need to substitute for it in the index.

6:3 - 6:4 do not match earlier versions. Dismissed as an imperfect recall.

7:2 - 7:3 do not match any of the clashes with the Human Torch. Same as above.

8:1 is generic.

8:2 is missing and needs to be indexed for both characters.

Regarding 5:5, in both Bill Everett's versions and in SAGA, Namor enters NYC underwater. A flight over NYC could nevertheless happen later in his guerrilla. Indeed both SUB 8 & 38 show Namor discovering the city from the air. While his dialogue reads as first discovering the city it works as well as discovering it from above.

The narration in SUB 8 makes it seem the events from attacking NYC to his fight vs the Human Torch all happened in rapid succession while the panels themselves do not depict a flow of events.

Roy Thomas and John Buscema probably retold the sequence from memory and combined the various rampages from Marvel Comics 2 to 8 into one sequence.

SUB 8 used to be the first modern appearance of Betty Dean and as such was marked with brackets but we now only mark the first actual appearance.
