WAR of the REALMS

Post by Clive_Reston »

Because somebody had to start it! I'll try to update this weekly...
(Last updated: 7/3/19)

Thor 13 -FB (2-3)
Thor 13 -FB (4-6)

War of the Realms: War Scrolls 2/3 -FB (1-2, 9:6): "when the realms yet were young"

Thor 14 -FB (1-3): young Thor can't lift the hammer yet

War of the Realms: War Scrolls 1 -FB (1-2): Thor and Daredevil have previously met, so it's probably sometime after DD 30

War of the Realms: War Scrolls 2 -FB (1-2): "years ago"

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #43 -FB: happens at a time when Moon Girl has Devil, Thor Odinson has both arms and Mjolnir, and Loki is an old man; I am mystified as to where this could be

Thor 13 -FB (7) --seems to be circa Mighty Thor (2016) #6
Thor 13 -FB (8) --"weeks later"

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #44 -FB: "several months" ago, appears to take place during Mighty Thor #701, as Mangog is trashing Old Asgard

Avengers 18 -FB (11, 13,15): training the SSA

War of the Realms: Journey Into Mystery 1 -FB (3): "four weeks" before pp. 1-2

WotR:WS 2/3 -FB (3-4, 5:5-8, 9:1-9:5): "a few weeks ago"

Avengers 20 -FB (1-4): before WotR starts

Thor 13 -FB (9-14:1, 1 = 14:2, 14:3-18): "days ago"

Tony Stark: Iron Man 12-13: before WotR 1, per editorial note

War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas 1 (1-2): Wave and Aero in North Pacific

Fantastic Four 10 (1-8): "nine days" after Ben and Alicia's wedding, just as the action of WotR is about to start

War of the Realms 1 (1-21) (may get broken up later)

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #43 (1-10)
(basically simultaneous with)
WotR 1 (22-25)
(and)
Asgardians of the Galaxy 8 (1-5)

USQG2 43 (11) ~ WotR 1 (26)
WotR 1 (27-33)
AotG 8 (6-7) (Loki magic suddenly fizzles out)

WotR:NAoA 1 (3-9) (Ms. Marvel, Silk, Shang-Chi, Brawn, Jimmy Woo in Dubai, alerted to NYC fight; Ms. Marvel says she's going to join the Champions in New York)
Champions 5 (1-3) (Miles in Dubai, seeing the battle on TV)
War of the Realms: War Scrolls 2/3 (5:1-5:4)
War of the Realms: Punisher 1-3 (Frank is on his own, and doesn't seem to know of evacuations happening via the Sanctum Sanctorum)
WotR:WS 1 -FB (3-4) (Fisk trying to get away via chopper)
USQG2 43 (12-16) (Squirrel Girl in Canada)
AotG 8 (8-20) (Punisher in Manhattan, with Executioner)

WotR:WS 1/2 (evacuation in progress, Warriors Three and Cloak & Dagger)
WotR:WS 1/4 (Howard the Duck et al.; the battle's been going on for a bit)
WotR: JIM 1 -FB (4-7) (late in the Times Square battle, "days" before pp. 1-2; Miles has made his way there from Dubai somehow; Thori sent on a mission with Balder)
Avengers 18 (1-10, 12, 14, 16): Washington comes under attack after New York)
Venom 13-15 (after WotR 1, per editorial note)

WotR 2 (1-13) (refugees being directed to Sanctum; Punisher encounters Logan)
WotR:JIM 2 -FB (1-3) (Sindr in NYC; "champions" who have come from Europe to NYC include Captain Britain)

[The bulk of War of the Realms: Journey Into Mystery 1-5 extends from here to the break between pages 18 and 19 of WotR 4. The flashbacks in #1 are (8-10) Broxton, (11-12) Amarillo, (13-14) Albuquerque, (15-16) Flagstaff, (17-18) L.A. (we can assume there are a few days of driving time in there); that's followed by the non-FB chase scene on pp. 1-2 and 19-21. In issue 2 (4-20), there's a video feed on Sebastian Druid's phone (but he's magic), and one night passes; #3 is apparently the next day; #4 and #5 (1-18) are that night and the next day. As of early in #5, we're past at least some of WotR: New Agents of Atlas, for what that's worth. ]

WotR:NAoA 1 (10-20) (Sindr in Seoul--presumably she got there quickly via the Black Bifrost--along with the NAoA team, White Fox, Crescent and Io)
WotR:NAoA 2 (1-10)

AotG 9 (2/3:4-10:1, 13-17, 20:1-20:5)

WotR:WS 2/2: everybody's still at the mountain

Giant-Man 1 (editorial note says after WotR 2)
Giant-Man 2 (1-5)
WotR: Uncanny X-Men 1 (Strange has evacuated people from the city, Valkyries are dead)
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur 43 (1, 20)
Avengers 18 (17-20): same day as the Washington battle, but much later; the SSA have driven the giants across the border to Canada
Avengers 19 (1-9)

Superior Spider-Man 7: networks are down, West Coast Avengers aren't clear on what's happening, FF are fighting giants in NYC; Otto's lens will work for "less than a day"

Giant-Man 2 (6-20): begins the day after pp. 1-5, a full day and night passes during it
USQG2 43 (17-20): at least one night has passed since the invasion started
USQG2 44
USQG2 45 (1-3) --per recap page, this fits with what Tony's up to, timing-wise (though it requires a bit of the Internet to be working; doesn't matter if recap page is apocryphal, anyway!)

Champions 5 (4-20) (editorial notes indicate that it's at some point after both WotR: New Agents of Atlas #1 and Unstoppable Wasp #5; they encounter Cyclops, Havok and Madrox at some point after WotR: X-Men #1)

WotR: New Agents of Atlas 2 (11-20) --this has moved a bit later to fit with Black Bifrost timeline

WotRS:WA (15-23) (Deadpool notes that at least "half of the last week" has passed since the previous scene of WA, so there's some space there if we need to squeeze some stuff in, but he could also be exaggerating in a Deadpool-ish way)

WotR 3 (8:3-9:1)

Thor 13 (19:4-20)
WotR 4 (6-10)
WotRS:TLoG 1 (30) (back at Avengers Mountain)
WotR 4 (11)
Thor 12: mostly happens inside Loki's mind, but the last few pages are after "North America" has fallen

WotR:NAoA 3 (1-14) --just before Black Bifrost destroyed
WotR 4 (12-18) --Black Bifrost destroyed
WotR: Uncanny X-Men 2 (19-20): "hours" after earlier part of issue, Black Bifrost is gone
WotR:NAoA 3 (15-20) --Black Bifrost is down

WotR:WS 1 (5-12), WotR:WS 2 (3-9): sometime after WotR 3, according to editorial note, and seems to be after the bulk of WotR 4 as well; "days" after -FB (3-4); Daredevil with sword
War of the Realms: Uncanny X-Men 3 (1-18)
WotR:WS 2 (10) some time later, Roxx News transmissions are working
WotR:WS 3 (1-9)

WotR:JIM 5 (19-20) leads directly into...
WotR 4 (19-20): back at Avengers Mountain, Jane rallies the troops, Daredevil is present
Avengers 20 (5-9): Carol is "headed to Shanghai," Jen is not yet armored up

Deadpool 13 (some point after WotRS:TWA and before WotR 5 -FB (8)
Deadpool 14 (1-11)
War of the Realms 5 -FB (3-7) -- Spider-Man on pg. 7, with Dr. Strange & Ghost Rider per Captain Marvel 6
Avengers 20 (10-13): Jen is armored up and back in Australia, encounters Deadpool
Deadpool 14 (12-20)--picks up immediately after WotR 5 -FB (8), probably runs roughly concurrently with at least some of that flashback sequence)
War of the Realms 5 -FB (8-17, 19-20): networks are back up as of page 9, but they seem to have only been down for a little while; Captain Marvel and Shang-Chi in Shanghai on pg. 11; Kurse on pg. 15; Hercules mentioned but off-panel
War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas 4 (1-17): Captain Marvel is still in Asia for a fight in which Sindr appears to get away via... a repaired Black Bifrost? when'd that happen?
Avengers 20 (14-16): She-Hulk arrives in Antarctica
Champions 6 (during the big global fights)
Captain Marvel 6 (Carol has been awake for "three days," joins Dr. Strange after WotR 5 -FB (7))
Captain Marvel 7 (1-9)
Captain Marvel 7 (10-19): "24 hours" after pp. 1-9; Sindr is "next on [Carol's] list," and I'm going to assume that means NYC
Avengers 20 (17-20): She-Hulk and Daredevil in NYC
WotR: Spider-Man and the League of Realms 1 (after WotR 4, per editorial note, and after WotR 5 -FB because of Kurse; pp. 19-20 happen a bit later and must be before Asgardians of the Galaxy 10)
WotR: SM&tLoR 2
WotR:SM&tLoR 3 (editorial note says it's also after WotR:WS 3, since Kurse now knows her former name)
Asgardians of the Galaxy 10 (must be before WotR 5 (18))

War of the Realms 5 (1-2, 18)
War of the Realms: War Scrolls 3/2 ("eight days" after the start of the invasion)

War of the Realms 6 (1-2) --yeah, pg. 2 is actually in the far future, what of it?
War of the Realms 6 (3-6) ~ Thor 14 (4-7): Thor Corps congregates
WotR:WS 3 (10)
War of the Realms 6 (7-9): Captain Marvel dispatches Sindr, which makes a lot more sense if it's happening in NYC, although that's unclear from context
War of the Realms 6 (10-12) ~ Thor 14 (8-20)
War of the Realms 6 (13-31)
USQG2 46 (18-19): shortly after WotR 6, Loki appears

War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas 4 (18-20)
War of the Realms: Uncanny X-Men 3 (19-20)
Captain Marvel 7 (20) ("ten days" after pp. 10-19, war has been over for a while)
USQG2 46 (20): "a few months" after the end of the war (doesn't look like it has to precede #47)

AND... at some point we need to get back to "Secret Empire to War of the Realms".. there's a few fix-ups that need to be applied, and it's got a way to go to reach completion.
Out in the Land Down-Under, beneath a rocky outcrop, deep within the back paddock, dwells the Stray Lamb.

This week's update clarifies Captain Britain's chronology and opens up a gap of at least a few days within War of the Realms #3...

This week's update is a big one, including quite a few scenes in tie-in books that are simultaneous with scenes in War of the Realms itself.

Conundrum #1: Freyja sends Thori the Murder Dog on a mission with Balder late in the New York battle (in WotR:JIM 1 -FB), and they're on the road for a good "four weeks" [EDITED TO ADD: NOPE, I MISREAD THAT], but Thori is also hanging out with Black Panther at Avengers Mountain in Avengers 19. I suppose he could've made a detour at some point...

Conundrum #2: Is there any time that the flashback that takes up most of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur 43 could possibly have happened? What am I missing?

Re: WAR of the REALMS

This week's update involves one potentially hazardous timing cue: in WotR #2, global communications networks have just been struck down (at Roxxon's directive). But we see several TV transmissions early in the event--notably in WotR: New Agents of Atlas #1, Champions #5 and WotR: War Scrolls 2/3 (that one's on Roxx News, so we can cut it a little slack if necessary)--so the networks need to still be up for that.

Fantastic Four 10 (9-20) involves invading forces heading toward Yancy Street to cut off the communications that are still happening via Valeria's tower. That scene seems to follow on directly from pp. 6-8, which is definitely NOT during the invasion--but there's going to have to be a little bit of a break there, long enough for initial transmissions about the attack to happen before the invaders head from midtown to Yancy Street. (There's also a gap long enough to organize a block party between pages 5 and 6, but as of page 6, Alicia and Ben have been married for "nine days.") Other suggestions for how to finesse this are welcome.

Still not clear when the real-time sequences in the Daredevil feature of War Scrolls are happening, but Jason Aaron's writing them, so I assume they'll fit somewhere when the dust settles.

Updates this week are all pretty straightforward. I'm starting to suspect that at least some of War of the Realms: Journey Into Mystery might take place after WotR itself is over... we'll see next issue, I suppose.

This week's update clarifies when WotR: Journey Into Mystery takes place--though I haven't tried to coordinate it in a more granular way with other series' timelines, because there doesn't seem to be any functional overlap in appearances (well, other than Thori, which is still an issue). Otherwise relatively straightforward, I think. And it does seem like everyone can probably get through the whole thing in eight days, for the sake of Immortal Hulk, pending what happens in WotR #6...

EDITED TO ADD: Tweaked it again--Kurse is present in WotR 5 -FB, so (since Captain Marvel 6 indicates that Spider-Man's appearance earlier in that FB is alongside Dr. Strange and Ghost Rider) both that and Captain Marvel have to be before Spider-Man & the League of Realms, which has to be before Asgardians of the Galaxy 10, which has to be before WotR 5's present-day scene.

This week: the wrap-up! (Well, almost: there's still an epilogue and the last part of the Squirrel Girl story to come.) Timing seems to more or less make sense on everything except Thori, although I am uncertain if I've tracked Captain Marvel's comings and goings through her various fights with Sindr in Asia and elsewhere correctly. Corrections are very welcome.

Basically, I've only read the main mini (I've peeked at some of the tie-ins). Now that it's all out I plan to read through it using your list. I'll chime in if anything strange pops out at me. However, I'll probably work through the Age of X-Man stuff first.

Good job!

A tiny little update, with Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #46, which explains rather elegantly why the teams fighting invaders around the world in the later stages of WotR don't have to deal with the Frost Giants' presence in North America so much any more, beyond Laufey himself (and, okay, the Frost Giant archers in #5).
