Re: WAR of the REALMS to EMPYRE

Post by Col_Fury »

It looks like the initial issues in the Dawn of X books starts in publication order:

X5 1 (Starjammers here before NM4 1)
MRDRS 1 (Marauders formed)
XCAL4 1 (Betsy & Kwannon avoiding each other, Kitty as pirate)
NM4 1 (‘Berto & co. leave for space)
XFOR6 1 (Xavier killed, island on lockdown, Marauders appear)
FANGELS2 1 (island already on lockdown, after XCAL4 1)

OK, great. But how do the following issues line up? Xavier is resurrected in XFOR6 3, then goes on to appear in X5 4, which is roughly a month after HOX 1-6. Xavier also says in X5 4 that he was killed (XFOR6 1) a month after Krakoa went public, so XFOR6 1 has to be shortly before X5 4 (which itself is in the week of January 21-25).

XFOR6 2 picks up exactly where #1 leaves off, same night. XFOR6 3 picks up where #2 leaves off, and goes from night into the next day where Xavier is brought back. I guess he was dead for one night? If we need a break, I suppose one could be put between pages 7-8 of #2, before Wolverine arrives in South Korea (of course, Wolverine shouldn’t appear elsewhere if that’s needed).

XFOR6 4 has a Cypher appearance. Probably an oops, but we might be able to get this after he returns from space. XFOR6 4-5 happens over a day or two. Sage appears.

XFOR6 6 has the team destroying a foreign nation’s economy. Happens over a few days.

NM4 1-2 has the gang go to space for fun space times. They end up in space jail and get Murd Blurdock as their really good space lawyer.

NM4 3 is a different story, but it’s (seemingly shortly) after ‘Berto & co. leave for space. Spans two days.

NM4 4 is 3 days after last issue’s end, skips a day (Sage appears), and another, and another, and another. Boom Boom, apparently the only person on Krkoa to care about missing mutants, arrives to save the day, LIKE A BOSS.

NM4 5 is more space fun with our space pals.

NM4 6 is the same day as NM4 4, and then has a 4 days later epilogue. Boom Boom takes care of business.

NM4 7 comes out this week, but looking at the celebratory cover I’m hoping/assuming the plot gets wrapped up.

X5 2 refers to Xavier as currently dead, so that has to be before XFOR6 3, and I guess during that gap in XFOR6 2.

X5 3 has Xavier’s Quiet Council chair empty, implying he’s still dead at the moment.

X5 5 has X-23/Wolverine trapped/gone for months. Oops.

FANGELS2 1 is while Xavier is dead, one night into the next day.

FANGELS2 2-4 is at least a few days after #1 (kid Cable’s been doing research between #1-2). All one night. I’m not seeing any references to Xavier or other plot points. Kwannon says every time they leave Krakoa they risk it turning against them, but she’s probably talking about them planning to kill a villain, which is against the rules.

FANGELS2 5 has kid Cable recruiting some people into Kwannon’s group. X-Force is referenced, so this is after XFOR6 3, where X-Force is formed. No mention of how long it’s been since last issue; could be a day or a week. Who knows? Betsy as Captain Britain appears.

FANGELS2 6 finishes the plot, same day as last issue.

XCAL4 1 happens in a day. Rogue falls into a coma. Gambit appears in XFOR6 2’s “oh no Xavier’s dead” scene but Rogue doesn’t. Maybe Xavier’s killed while she’s in her coma?

XCAL4 2 is shortly after last issue, maybe the next day? Pirate Kitty appears with the bandage on her nose, wearing what she’s wearing at the end of MRDRS 1.

XCAL4 3 starts on the same night as last issue’s end. Seems to happen in one day.

XCAL4 4 seems like it’s been a little bit since last issue. The public knows Betsy is the new Captain Britain. Ends on a cliffhanger and Rogue starts to wake up.

XCAL4 5 same night as last issue, Rogue’s awake but looks like Apocalypse.

XCAL4 6 has a data page reference to a “Battle of Imbolc Eve;” Imbolc is on February 1, so the Eve would be January 31, right? Excalibur has been fighting Morgan le Fay for a bit, but Betsy’s cut off before she can say for how long. Rogue is back to normal.

MRDRS 1 has Kitty get a broken nose, and becoming a pirate.

MRDRS 2 gasp! Xavier’s been assassinated. Kitty changes her costume. Pyro gets a face tattoo.

MRDRS 3-FB happens before Pyro gets a face tattoo (but after Wolverine gets his booze, as seen in MRDRS 1). MRDRS 3 is ambiguous as to when it happens, but Shaw can leave the island at whim, and so seems to not be on lockdown… but he’s Shaw so who knows?

MRDRS 4 has Kitty back to looking like she did in MRDRS 1. Huh. They pick up on Bishop’s mission. Kitty’s nose is still broken. The Hellfire kids appear.

MRDRS 5 has Kitty in her new look she adopted in #2. Kitty’s nose is no longer broken. Ends on a cliffhanger.

MRDRS 6 is the same day as last issue, and
Spoiler:
Kitty apparently dies
.

So, in theory:

X5 1 (Starjammers here before NM4 1)
……
MRDRS 1 (Krakoa has no coffee) (Marauders formed)
MRDRS 3-FB
XCAL4 1-3 (Betsy & Kwannon avoiding each other, Kitty as pirate)
NM4 1-2 (Krakoa has coffee now) (‘Berto & co. leave for space)
XFOR6 1, 2 (1-7) (Xavier killed, island on lockdown, Marauders appear)
FANGELS2 1 (island already on lockdown, Betsy appears, after XCAL4 1)
X5 2 (Xavier currently dead)
MRDRS 2-4 (Xavier currently dead)
X5 3 (Xavier currently dead)
XFOR6 2 (8-20), 3 (Xavier resurrected)
X5 4 (within days of XFOR6 1) [January 21]
NM4 3-6 [lasts 2 weeks]
XCAL4 4-5
FANGELS2 2-4
XCAL4 6 [after January 31]
NM4 3-6 [lasts 2 weeks]
FANGELS2 5-6 (Betsy as Captain Britain, X-23)
X5 5 (X-23 goes away)
???NM4 7 (‘Berto & co. back from space?)???
XFOR6 4-5 (Cypher appears)
???MRDRS 5-6
XFOR6 6

Thoughts?

I am reading all these series according to the release order in these days and so far my notes coincide perfectly with what you wrote.

Apparently X-Men / Fantastic Four (and consequently also Incoming 1) must take place before Marauders 5-6 for the presence of Kitty (which to see the latest preview, it will not be possible at least until Marauders 11), but her nose is okay and at the same time Pyro doesn't seem to have the facial tattoo. So one of two things should be a mistake, if not both.

Yeah, X-Men / FF looks tricky. We might have to wait until the mini's over to see where it falls. Good looking forward!

MIMOSM 5 refers to MIMOSM 4 as “last month.” Cold weather.

MIMOSM 6 is the same day and continues into the next, and the next. Continued into next issue.

MIMOSM 7 ends on another cliffhanger (Miles is abducted). It also refers to CHMPS3 4 in the past tense, and makes it seem like it was at least a bit ago. We're most likely past WOTR by now, so MIMOSM 5-??? is after WOTR (maybe the cold weather was a holdover from the Frost Giants or something?). MIMOSM 4 is probably before WOTR, and that "last month" comment in MIMOSM 5 might have to mean "last semester." *shrug* (while school is in session; maybe Miles' charter/boarding school works on trimesters?)

MIMOSM 8 has Miles being tortured. No mention of time.

MIMOSM 9 says Miles has been missing for three days, and he’s rescued.

MIMOSM 10 says last issue was “a few months ago” and is a new school semester. Also, it’s Miles’ birthday, Ultimate Green Goblin appears and Miles begins to remember he’s not from around here. Unfortunately, Miles says he hasn’t been Spider-Man since then. That doesn’t work, because he appears in CHMPS3 7-10, which has to be after MIMOSM 5-10. Maybe he was Spider-Man for that CHMPS3 story, had anxiety attacks (or whatever) and then retired?

MIMOSM 10/2 is mostly flashback origin for a supporting character, but there is a bit where Spider-Miles helps the supporting character go after some dirty cops. Obviously after the first story, where he resumes being Spider-Man.

Let’s see… aside from CHMPS3 7-10, he appears in FCBD2019:SM/V 1/2 (needs to be moved), IHRT 6 and SM@2 1. Everything else (like ABCRNG, GPSB!, etc.) is after the start of a school semester.

As it turns out, SM@2 1-FB happens before Spider-Verse and SM@2 1 happens after. I’m assuming SM@2 1/2 is shortly before Secret Wars.

IHRT 6-FB & 6 says CHMPS3 4 already happened, so we’re past that. Also, they haven’t reconciled yet, so we’re before CHMPS3 8-10. Miles is missing (for “weeks”) and his parents filed a police report, so this isn’t the same “Miles is missing” that was seen in MIMOSM 7-9 (his parents didn’t call the police over there). Miles went missing on January 17 and now it’s February 2. Miles wanted to take a vacation after CHMPS3 4, so I guess we’re still before WOTR. Miles was stuck in a time loop and makes a Groundhog Day reference. We’re going to ignore the topical reference.

MIMOSM 11 is “three weeks” after last issue. Also after Absolute Carnage (thanks, editor’s note!). One day.

MIMOSM 12 is the same night as last issue.

MIMOSM 13 is the same night as last issue.

MIMOSM 14 happens in a day. Miles has a meeting with his principal about his academic probation, so maybe near the end of a semester? No mention of how long it’s been since last issue.

MIMOSM 15 is the same day as last issue. Miles is taken off probation.

Next issue ties in to whatever Outlawed is going to be, so there’s likely another time gap between this issue and next.

W7 1 has Kitty as a pirate, but looking as she does in X-Men / FF 1 (plain X-men suit, no broken nose). Has to be after at least XFOR6 3 because the current X-Force is a thing. Published the same day, MRDRS 8 has Bishop finding
Spoiler:
Kitty's corpse
.

I wonder if when
Spoiler:
Kitty's brought back
she ditches the pirate look? And maybe
Spoiler:
Pyro dies in the meantime and is brought back without the tattoo on his face?
Probably not. I guess we'll just have to wait a few months to find out how it all fits together.

However, Domino looks like her normal self, without the plant "skin grafts" or glowy eye (socket) she has in X-Force just now.

Jimmy Woo appears in INCOMING! 1, as do Amadeus Cho and the Agents of Atlas; they give Jimmy grief for going missing for weeks. Also, the agents know they’re being attacked from the sea, but don’t know it’s Namor yet. So, this pretty much has to go during the 24 hours between ATLATK 1-FB and ATLATK 1.

Also in INCOMING! 1, a senator wants to outlaw teenage superheroes, which is what that upcoming OUTLAWED thing is going to deal with. So, MIMOSM 15 should probably go before INCOMING! 1, because MIMOSM 16 is going to tie into OUTLAWED. INCOMING! 1 references MIMOSM 13, at least.

There’s also a scene in INCOMING! 1 with the cast of Swordmaster, so I should probably get around to reading that.

Since we're looking at Jimmy Woo here, this might be an opportune moment to cut in with the placements i posted for Marvel Comics 1000 that seem to occur during this era..

Marvel Comics 1000/52 [Night Thrasher discovers the dead body of Jerome Hamilton, aka Blind Justice, and contacts Jimmy Woo, letting him know that Hamilton had passed on the Eternity Mask before he was killed, suggesting they bring in Dr Adam Brashear]
Marvel Comics 1000/5 [America Chavez talks about her place in the world]
Marvel Comics 1000/7 [Patsy Walker battles an alien tree]
Marvel Comics 1000/13 [After yanking out the liver of a Skrumbrangg, Dr Strange takes his Cloak of Levitation, along with the rest of his costume, to a laundromat]

This is essentially unplaceable for sheer lack of context of what's going on, with so many Lokis and how they got there or even if it's some sort of dream sequence

I don't think this is current. Daylight + an inarticulate Hulk eating a microphone?

Given the number of "Bens", this can't be current. As I said (at greater length) in the Marvel #1000 thread... with no further evidence other than "must have been quite a while ago", I'd treat the 1984/Secret Wars blurb as literal and put it in the gap of ASM 251, immediately before Battleworld.

OTOH, these all seem current to me, which you don't have on your list:
/28 "One Heart" (Black Panther)
/30 "Seven Things You Can Count On" (Captain Marvel)
/42 "SHE" (She-Hulk)
/49 "Jet Lag" (Spider-Man vs. Wolverine anniversary)
/56 "The Route" (Spider-Man)
/68 "Parental Guidance Suggested" (Luke Cage/Jessica Jones)

BP&AOWKND 1-4 happens in a day and has Man-Wolf on the team (he joined in A7 12 and appeared with the team during WOTR in A7 19).

In WOV:CCRNG 1, Man-Wolf is a federal agent and falls under Carnage’s control.

In Absolute Carnage, he’s still under Carnage’s control, but working at Ravencroft.

After Absolute Carnage, he appears in Ravencroft #1 still working at Ravencroft (according to solicits).

It looks like BP&AOWKND 1-4 will have to happen before WOV:CCRNG 1. For what it’s worth, when Broo thinks of the X-Men he pictures a school setting and not Krakoa.

BP&AOWKND 5 seems to want to be shortly after last issue, but I can easily see a gap between them. Guest stars Deadpool, and Stark Unlimited is still around, so before the New Year when it’s bought out by Baintronics. HOLY CARP YOU GUYZ IT’S THE LIVEWIRES~!1 And a Nick Fury LMD!

BP&AOWKND 6 is the same day as last issue.

I know it should be the Vulture, given the connection with Spider-Man: Homecoming, but to me it looks more like the Legal Eagle ...

John Jameson was given the job of leading the security of the new Ravencroft just before Ruins Of Ravencroft. He appears in all three one-shot Ruins Of Ravencroft (RoR: Carnage, RoR: Sabretooth and RoR: Dracula), then in Ravencroft 1 (and presumably up to 5).

CA8 19 continues the plot and Cap thinks it might be time to get back into his regular clothes.

ATLATK 2 refers to AERO 6, so we’re past that.

AERO 1/2-FB is Wave’s origin. Years ago, I’m guessing.

AERO 1-FB, 2-FB, 3-FB, 4, 5, 6-FB, 6, 7-FB, 7, 8 is months ago. Stark Industries (not Unlimited) is a thing so we’re several months ago. Story’s not done yet.

AERO 1-3 has Aero fighting an animated building and her nemesis. …they forgot about this plot, didn’t they?

AERO 4/2-FB is Sea Hunter’s origin.

AERO 1/2, 2/2, 3/2, 4/2, 5/2, 6/2 happens shortly after WOTR. This is the story ATLATK 2 refers to.

SWORDMAS 1-8 is Sword Master’s origin. Doctor Strange appears in his blue cloak & axe look, so I guess we’re sometime during DS4. Story’s not done yet.

SWORDMAS 6/2-FB happens months ago. A dragon in Atlantis has vanished. This is the one Namor’s upset about in ATLATK.

SWORDMAS 1/2, 2/2, 3/2, 4/2, 5/2, 6/2, takes place after WOTR, all across like two or three days. Shang-Chi starts training Sword Master. Ares appears, but didn’t all the Olympians die in A:NRH? And now they’re reborn in GOTG6? I guess they missed Ares? Anyway, #5/2 has a footnote pointing to the bulk of AOATLAS3 1, so we’re past that.
