Immortal Hulk #32

Note: This issue contains two interludes which show how Xemnu is altering the memories of the human race and some “man in the street” interviews that show how these altered memories are affecting them. I’m going to start with them to get them out of the way.

Interlude #1: Five scenes from “The Magic Planet” show in which Xemnu has taken the place of various heroes. Xemnu crawls headfirst down a wall like a certain Amazing Spider-Man; Xemnu raises a fist as he calls out “Avengers Assemble!”; Xemnu (a.k.a. the Living Hulk) uses the Ultimate Nullifier; Xemnu appears on a certain Late Night television program; and Xemnu speaks of how his X-Men have been saving the world.

Man in the street interviews include: a blond man who knows that the Hulk is Xemnu from The Magic Planet show; three students from Jersey who consider Xemnu to be their hero and once saw him embiggen; a teacher who associates Xemnu with the “I believe in the Incredible Hulk” slogan; Jackie McGee who is being treated by a paramedic after so many at the Arizona Herald have been lost; and a father who remembers that Xemnu was his favorite when he was a kid and is now his kid Sweetpea’s favorite.

Interlude #2: Five televised reports about how Banner is now perceived. An eight-foot tall creature sighted at Los Diablos Nuclear Test Site who locals are calling the devil; the creature’s identity has been confirmed as atomic scientist Dr. Robert Banner; Middletown was completely destroyed by a Gamma Bomb set off by terrorist Robert Banner; Tony Stark, Reed Richards and other heroes were held hostage by Robert Banner and his alien army; and Robert Banner stating that he is here to end the world.

Man in the street interviews include: the blond man who knows Robert Banner as a lousy terrorist also known as “The Strangest Man of All Time”; the Jersey students know Banner as being like a cult leader who the Incredible Hulk has always managed to stop; Brawn (Amadeus Cho) explains his theory that the monster never wanted to kill but Robert Banner was always urging him to do so; and Jackie McGee remembers that Robert Banner destroyed her childhood home and all but killed her father but the Hulk saved her life and she finds that hard to reconcile but doesn’t know why since they’re different people.
