Draft period from 1977 to 1980

Post by Frank »

Here is a draft that I worked on a few months ago over the period which goes roughly from 1977 to the end of 1980.I based it on the notes that straylamb kindly gave me on which he worked .

I cross-checked relevant information that I found on supermegamonkey, other information that I gleaned from the titles, not always taking into account the chronologies of certain characters of the MCP of that period there who deserve an update day.

all comments accompanying the placement of certain titles are to the credit of fnord from supermegamonkey

all help is welcome to improve this listing

Defenders #52-56

Nighthawk's jetpack, smashed in issue #51 by the Ringer, is still broken in this arc, so no appearances of Nighthawk where he flies should appear in between. Dr. Strange does not appear in these issues, placing this essentially concurrently with Strange's disappearance in his own series prior to his return in Dr. Strange #24, with the little Clea back-up story taking place after he's returned. The Hulk has a gap in his own series' timeline where he appears in the Champions. His appearances here can fit there as well. The Sub-Mariner appears here after Super-Villain Team-Up #13.

Defenders #57

The prelude part of this issue takes place prior to Defenders #42. The main story takes place before Dr. Strange returns to this dimension in Dr. Strange #24 according to a footnote showing Clea sitting around his house being bored. The MCP ignores that footnote and places this after Strange's return and the close of that Starlin/Stern arc in Dr. Strange #28, but i'd like to honor the footnotes unless it is impossible. The other constraining factor is Ms. Marvel, who is wearing the costume without the exposed midriff but still based on Captain Marvel's refers to events in Ms. Marvel #10 so it needs to take place after that. MCP places it between issues #14 and #15 of her series, but i put it earlier than that so it can go before Dr. Strange #24. All of this fits in the same gap in the Hulk's series that his Champions appearance fits in.

Iron Man #95-100

The MCP places a run of Iron Man beginning with #95 and through the middle of #109 between Avengers #166-167. At the end of this arc Iron Man is in Asia, and he'll next be seen stopping at Frankenstein's castle in issue #101, so he shouldn't appear elsewhere in between.

Iron Man #101-102

The MCP places this after Avengers #166 and the Super-Villain Team-Up/Champions crossover.

Ms. Marvel #15-16 « an unusually balmy autumn day » AUTUMN 1977

this is mentioned that the Fantastic Four have broken up (as of FF #188 and until about FF #201) and there is chaos at Stark Industries due to the Midas takeover (Iron Man #103-107). I've placed this just prior to Iron Man #103-107 thanks to Jean DeWolff's appearance there (where she is turned to gold).

Iron Man #103-107

Thanks to the subplot of Jasper Sitwell chasing Krissy Longfellow and Harry Key from last issue, this is pretty much a direct continuation of the previous arc. As with all of Iron Man #95-109, takes place between Avengers #166-167. This arc ends with a number of people turned to gold statues, including Jasper Sitwell and Jean DeWolff (Jean DeWolff's appearance in Ms. Marvel #15 takes place during this arc, before her appearance here). Issue #108 begins with Iron Man and Jack of Hearts having taken the statues to Henry Pym for a cure, so none of these characters should appear elsewhere in between. Most likely a decent amount of time passes during this arc, at least a couple of days since Tony and Whitney are shown waking up together twice. Probably longer to account for the stopped payments to Marianne's sanctuary and the renovations to Stark's factory. But i've kept it in a single arc since Iron Man can't appear elsewhere during this time

Iron Man #108- IM 109 (1 - 7)

Takes place very soon after the end of the previous arc. Long enough for Henry Pym to get contacted and the gold people transferred, but none of the characters should appear elsewhere in between (especially the ones that were turned to gold!).

Marvel Team-Up #65-66

The MCP places this between Amazing Spider-Man #171-172. According to Excalibur #53, Captain Britain remains behind in the US and spends more time with Spider-Man, but see that issue for some complications regarding that. When Captain Britain does return to England, his plane is attacked by the wizard Necromon, and he gets amnesia, so his next appearance is in the Incredible Hulk Weekly series, and he shouldn't appear elsewhere in between.

Marvel Team-Up #67

The MCP places this between Amazing Spider-Man #171-172.

Marvel Team-Up #68

Spider-Man appears here during a large gap between Amazing Spider-Man #170-171, where a lot of his sundry guest appearances have been placed. Man-Thing and Jennifer Kale appear here after leaving Howard the Duck in Howard the Duck #24.

FF 190 (thing)

Fantastic Four #191 FF break up

Fantastic Four #192

Pushed forward a bit in time to allow for the Thing's appearances in Marvel Two-In-One #37-41.

Marvel Two-In-One #37-39

After issue #36, which took place circa Fantastic Four #176, Marvel Two-In-One makes a huge jump forward in time to take place after the FF have broken up, between Fantastic Four #191-192. It's possible that with the inclusion of Mr. Fantastic in issue #36, they realized they had a problem, maybe explaining why the next issue blurb for #36 indicated that they had no idea what was coming next.
I have Daredevil here between DD #154-155, same as his appearance in Human Fly. For the two Avengers, this takes place concurrently with the Korvac saga; Pym will stick around for some pizza in Marvel Two-In-One #40, and that same issue is referenced by the Black Panther in Avengers #172.

Iron Man #109-112

The first 8 pages of issue #109 take place directly after #108, but i had to split it up because the rest of this story takes place much later (issue #108 ties back to a story that began in #103 and has dependencies with various other books, and the main story from #109 continues in #110-113 and has dependencies with different books). So i'm treating the first 8 pages of #109 as flashback (which means characters only appearing there aren't listed as Characters Appearing). The MCP places these issues during the Korvac saga; i've placed it afterward and before Iron Man's appearance in Thor #270-271. Takes place concurrently with Fantastic Four #193-194.

Fantastic Four #193-194

Reed wishes that he could have conferred with Tony Stark before taking his job, but Stark is unavailable due to being on the moon, placing this circa Iron Man #110.

ASM@ 11 (1977)

This story is context free .The MCP places this between Amazing Spider-Man #171-172, making this Grey Panther rally earlier than the one in Amazing Spider-Man #176 (and the reasoning for placement is probably due to that heart attack; Spider-Man gets an injury in #172 that isn't resolved until Aunt May's heart attack which puts her out of commission for a while).
ASM@ 11/2

Amazing Spider-Man #172-173

:In the aftermath of his first encounter with the Molten Man in this arc, Spider-Man is shot in the shoulder by a security guard. The shoulder injury results in a number of considerations. In this arc, Peter gets himself patched up by Doc Connors off panel ("It's fortunate [he] hadn't left for Florida yet"), so i've included him as a character appearing. In the next arc, Peter is shown returning from his fight with Molten Man, still suffering from the bullet wound. The wound completely heals in Amazing Spider-Man #176, which is part of a continuing story that ends in #180. Then in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #12, Peter is testing out his healed arm with Flash Thompson on a tennis court. So Spider-Man basically appears from ASM #172-180 in a single run, with PPTSSM #12-15 taking place afterwards.

Amazing Spider-Man # 174-175

Spider-Man returns home from his fight with the Molten man at the start of this arc. And in issue #176, he's shown returning with J. Jonah Jameson from the encounter with the Punisher and the Hitman here. So Spidey's appearance here continues directly from the previous arc and continues directly in the next arc. Spider-Man's shoulder, injured in the previous arc, is still injured here.

Defenders 58-60

A comment by a police officer at the initial Devil-Slayer fight seems to indicate that he's already responded to a few other super-hero related disturbances during the same day. The footnote lists Ms. Marvel #10, Daredevil #144, and Amazing Spider-Man #175.

Doctor Strange #29

footnote on the opening page indicates this takes place after Defenders #58-60 (and of course Dr. Strange #23-28). As to the "recent" references (see below), i think it's pretty clear that Pym and Strange have been playing phone tag for a while, plus they've both been busy, so it's taken time for them to compare notes and therefore they're talking about older events. Also, considering the compressed timeframe, it is possible that events that were published last year really are only a few weeks in the past in Marvel time.

Amazing Spider-Man #176-180

This begins directly after Amazing Spider-Man #175, with Spider-Man swinging home with JJ. I've placed Marvels: Eye of the Camera #3 between issue #175 and this arc since that issue ends with the scene from #175. In issue #176, Peter's arm is healed, placing this before Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #12, where Peter is testing out his newly healed arm.

Takes place concurrently with the Korvac saga. Thor and the Beast's appearance here takes place during Avengers #172, and the Beast moves on to Uncanny X-Men #111. Spider-Man makes a reference to Aunt May's heart attacks in Amazing Spider-Man #177, so it definitely takes place after that (although the MCP places this between ASM #171-172; i'm not sure why; other than the heart attack reference and the fact that Peter is studying at the university, the issue is context-free from Spidey's point of view.)

1978

Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #17-18 (set up in January 1978)

The MCP places this between Amazing Spider-Man #180-182. It also makes sense for this to take place prior to Hulk annual #7, where Angel and Iceman seem like they are settling into their new post-Champions life. As Kveto notes in the comments, there is a scene showing the Lightmaster has escaped from prison in a set-up for next issue

Ms. Marvel #17-18) (St Valentine day 1978) (snow)

Some SHIELD agents on monitor duty get a little naughty spying on Ms. Marvel, since Nick Fury is supposed to be "testifying before Congress" and "Dum Dum Dugan an' most of the top operations brass are on the coast chasin' big lizards". The Avengers have been stripped of their official status, placing this after Avengers #172. This takes place before Ms. Marvel's appearance in Avengers #175, making the Korvac saga concurrent with these issues (see the entry for Ms. Marvel #19 for the reason why). The other Avengers appearing in this issue appear between Avengers #172-173.

Marvel Two-In-One #40-41

The Black Panther mentions a missing persons problem during the Korvac Saga in Avengers #172, with a reference to these issues. Takes place between Fantastic Four #191-192 for the Thing.

Ms Marvel 19

This issue most likely takes place before the end of the Korvac saga, meaning that the events of those Avengers issues are happening concurrently with events here. This issue would take place between Avengers #172 and #174.

Issue #269 opens with Thor reading a Daily Bugle with the headline "Spider-Man and the Green Goblin -- Partners in Crime". That's a reference to an arc from ~Amazing Spider-Man #180.
There are context-free cameos by Captain Marvel, Dr. Doom, Nova, Daredevil, and Shang-Chi reacting to the events in the sky. Iron Man appears here during Iron Man #113 according to MCP, but it is context free as well. The Avengers appear here after the Korvac saga and before Avengers #178. The Fantastic Four are currently not home; we see a sign saying the top five floors of the Baxter Building are for rent.

The MCP places this between Amazing Spider-Man #186-187 and between Daredevil #154-155.

Marvel Two-In-One #42-43

Fantastic Four annual #13 (1978) (Daredevil)

I'm placing this before Fantastic Four #201, and therefore before Fantastic Four annual #12. See above for detail. Cameos by Daredevil, D.A. Tower, and Lt. Keating, all interested in the disappearances caused by the Mole Man. The MCP places DD between Daredevil #154-155.

Fantastic Four #201

Marvel Two-In-One annual #3 (1978)

The MCP places this between Nova #19-20 and between Fantastic Four #201-202. Nova initially thinks that the Monitors energy display is the work of Blackout, so it must take place after Nova #19. As Nova approaches the Baxter Building, he remembers that he read that the team broke up (as of FF #188 and until about FF #201, which means they are actually back together at this point.).One of the Monitors, Nygorn (the Last Monitor) will later appear as a member of the Starblasters.

Marvel Fanfare #14 (Vision & FF) (May 1984)

The MCP places this first story between Fantastic Four #201-202 and Avengers #177-179the reason it's been pushed back so far is that each Klaw appearance after this one feeds directly into the next one, with no room for him to appear here in between. (On the other hand, Klaw's lack of intelligence might have been explained if it did indeed take place in 1984, since at that point Klaw was recovering from having been bouncing around Galactus' spaceship for a while.) Unfortunately, the second story in this issue, which was complete crap, has to take place at a different time so it's been split into a separate entry.

Fantastic Four #202

An opening blurb says that the FF have "just reclaimed" the Baxter Building but we don't have to take that literally, and the MCP place a number of other appearances in between and i'm following them, but this should still take place relatively soon afterwards. Quasimodo next appears in flashback in Nova #25 so this has to take place prior to that. For Iron Man i have this between Iron Man #116-117 but any break after Stark Industries is rebuilt in #113 should do.

Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #24

brant Watson (after april 1978 and the released of Saturday night fever refs).Needs to take place after Amazing Spider-Man #186.

Daredevil #155-157 (1-6) (Beast )

The Black Widow returned to the Avengers in Avengers #173 when they called in all the reserve members. An indefinite period of time passes between DD's waking up from his coma and getting into a fight with the Ani-Men. Due to the fact that the Ani-Men story is continued in my Frank Miller Visionaries trade, this has been pushed forward a bit from its publishing date so it can be next to the conclusion of that story. Placement for Daredevil's appearances in other stories (like Peter Parker #26-28)

Ms Marvel is still working at Woman Magazine, so this has to take place before Ms. Marvel #22. Note also that in the first scan of her above, she says that so far none of the Avengers have seen her in her new costume except the Wasp (who made it). Therefore this has to go before Avengers annual #8. For Spider-Man, takes place between ASM #186-187.

Avengers Annual 8

Ms. Marvel is wearing her black costume. This has to take place after Marvel Team-Up #76-77, because in that arc she says that the Avengers have not yet seen her new costume. The MCP places this between Avengers #177-178; it definitely seems to be before the forced team reduction in Avengers #181.

Marvel Two-In-One #42-43

Chronological Placement Considerations: The MCP has this after Fantastic Four #201.

Spider-Woman #7 (October 1978) "July 4, 1978.. »

Ms. Marvel #22 (February 1979) (November 13 1978)

Pushed back in publication time a bit to synch up Ms. Marvel #23 with Avengers #181.

Defenders #62-64

This has been moved forward in time a little bit to get past the period where the Hulk is residing at Gamma Base. Ms. Marvel is wearing her new costume, placing this after Ms. Marvel #20. Ms. Marvel also says she is now an Avenger, but she can't be referring to her formal membership mandated by Gyrich in Avengers #183 since that won't be published for about half a year. She must be referring to her recent team-ups with them during the Korvac Saga. The other guest characters don't really have any context, and most of them don't even have books so fitting them in isn't really a problem.

Defenders #65

This issue starts in the aftermath of the last arc, with a few of the temporary Defenders and villains still milling about. None of those characters (Hercules, Blob, Gemini, Porcupine, Havok) should appear in between these Defenders entries.

Marvel team-up 78 (Simon Williams)

Spider-Man appears here between Amazing Spider-Man #186-187. The MCP places Wonder Man here after Avengers annual #8 and before Avengers #179

Avengers #178

Amazing Spider-Man #187

I've pushed this forward in time to be closer to issue #188, since that starts with some thugs taking advantage of the blackout here, and it helps explain why Captain America isn't in Avengers #179-180.

Amazing Spider-Man #188 (Brant Watson May Parker)
Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #120

Avengers #179-180 Beast

See the Captain America reference below. The problem is that Captain America #229 has to take place after Hulk Smash Avengers #2, which takes place after Avengers #182. So that footnote has to be wrong. I really hate disregarding footnotes, but it does occasionally happen. Luckily the actual comment being footnoted (Vision: "Since Captain America left the city on urgent business...") is context free enough to be ignored. I'm instead surmising that he's at the Indian Point power plant in Amazing Spider-Man #187.It's said that Captain America has left the city on urgent business, with a reference to Captain America #229, but that footnote is Smashed.Henry Gyrich revoked the Avengers Priority Clearance in Avengers #172, but the Avengers are allowed to use their Quinjet this issue because "the FAA has granted us special permission to fly our craft out of our midtown HQ provided we eventually land at a regular commercial airfield!". Seems... arbitrary, but ok.

Marvel Two-In-One #49

Keeping this in the same FF gap as Marvel Two-In-One #48-50 and that works out to having Dr. Strange appearing during the same gap in his book and Defenders as a number of Marvel Team-Up appearances.

Thor #280

Thor is wandering the streets of New York at the start of this issue. The MCP places this between Avengers #180-181.

Marvel Two-In-One #50

Thor #281-282

The MCP place this between Avengers #180-181.

Marvel Two-In-One annual #4 (1979) (Nick Fury)

The MCP places this before FF #204. Definitely takes place before Medusa is captured in FF #207.

Marvel Team-Up 79 (December 22 1978)

The MCP places this between Amazing Spider-Man #207-208, which is way later than the publication date. This is based on the Marvel Index going into contortions trying to place this at a Winter Solstice. I find this an exercise not worth engaging in, especially since it causes the Index to come up with really contrived reasons why Peter Parker would be at a Daily Bugle holiday party and receiving a bonus from JJ at a time when he wasn't supposed to be working there. One thing i do agree with the index about is that Marvel Team-Up #82 takes place almost directly after this story, thanks to a newspaper article referring to the events here (and it's winter in that story, but summer in Marvel Team-Up #80-81. While i normally ignore the weather, having it be winter here, then summer, and then winter again is a bit much for me). So i've placed these issues out-of-sequence relative to Marvel Team-Up #80-81. Based on my decision here, this needs to take place prior to Peter getting fired in Amazing Spider-Man #193. Also takes place after Ms. Marvel #22.

Marvel Team-Up #82-85

The current Daily Bugle has a headline of "Spider-Man Wrecks Museum" and depicts the Kulan Gath / Red Sonja encounter from Marvel Team-Up #79. This arc needs to be placed slightly after that and before Peter is fired from the Bugle and dumped by Mary Jane in Amazing Spider-Man #193. See my note on issue #79 for why i'm breaking from the MCP/Index on these issues, and why this is out of publication sequence for the Marvel Team-Up series.

Marvel Two-In-One #44

There's a framing sequence with the Thing telling the main story to a group of kids. The flashback portion takes place soon after the Champions break up, after Champions #17. It would also have to take place before the FF formally break up in Fantastic Four #191, since the Human Torch has a brief appearance.
The FF informally break up in #188 but the Thing and the Human Torch can still reasonably be hanging around the Baxter Building until #191. Note that a flashback in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #17-18, showing the actual break-up of the Champions, would take place before this issue, but since the main story in the Peter Parker issues takes place later, that doesn't affect placement. Regarding this issue, there's two choices. Beginning with Marvel Two-In-One #37-39, there are references to the FF's break-up, and so those stories take place after Fantastic Four #191. So just by the logic of sequential placement, this issue should also take place after that. And that's how the MCP handles it; they place the framing sequence after Marvel Two-In-One #43. But since this is a fill-in and there are no references to the FF series, you can assume that the framing sequence takes place shortly after the end of the main story, and that therefore the whole thing happens between Champions #17 and Fantastic Four #191. Going with that approach would allow me to list Hercules, the Human Torch, and Zeus as Characters Appearing, so that's what i'm doing even though it results in the slight oddity of this issue appearing between Marvel Two-In-One #36-37 (and it isn't all that odd for this site). All that said, it's worth realizing that the Thing's telling could be embellished or outright made-up (although according to the Marvel Appendix this story is referenced in a later handbook).

Marvel Two-In-One #45

captain Marvel's series was still running at this point, but it was currently engaged in the ISAAC storyline that lasted until after the Marvel Spotlight issues. I've placed this after that whole run (Captain Marvel #58-62 & Marvel Spotlight #1-3).

Marvel Two-In-One #46

Takes place after the Hulk leaves the Defenders in Defenders #62-64.

Uncanny X-Men 117

Uncanny X-Men 118-119 Christmas 1978

Iron Fist makes a brief phone cameo just to tell Misty that he can't help out because he and Power Man are buried in cases of their own. X-Men #120-121 has to take place before Hulk annual #8. Hulk is tied up in a lot of stories in his own book, Captain America, Defenders, and Daredevil, so the X-Men need to get pushed back in publishing time to accommodate him.

Marvel Two-In-One #47-48

The guest stars in these issues aren't characters that appear regularly in other books so this works well in any gap in the Thing's FF appearances.

Marvel Team-Up #87

Peter doesn't mention the name of the paper he's currently working for. Despite this being published after Black Panther #14-15, it seems to take place before that, since in those issues Monica Lynne and Kevin Trublood arrive at the Wakandan embassy and then meet T'Challa in Marvel Premiere #51 but we don't see them here. And i've pushed the Black Panther stories back before Spider-Man is fired from the Bugle in Amazing Spider-Man #193, so this is pushed back (almost a year in publication time) as well

Uncanny X-Men #120-121 1st Alpha Flight (Sasquatch, Northstar, Aurora, Shaman, Snowbird)

Amazing Spider-Man #189

The fight with Man-Wolf is briefly shown in Fantastic Four #204 and prevents Spider-Man from responding to the Human Torch's request for a meeting, so these issues take place concurrently. FF #204 also takes place during Avengers #181 and therefore so does this.

Amazing Spider-Man 190 (Pages 1-8)

The fight with Man-Wolf is briefly shown in Fantastic Four #204 and prevents Spider-Man from responding to the Human Torch's request for a meeting, so these issues take place concurrently. FF #204 also takes place during Avengers #181 and therefore so does this.

Avengers 181

This issue takes place concurrently with Amazing Spider-Man #190 (the Spidey panel is a single panel with no backgrounds and i'm treating it as conceptual, meaning that i haven't listed Spider-Man or the Man-Wolf as characters appearing) and with Avengers #181 (Johnny actually talks to Jarvis, however, so he is included here).
Fantastic Four #204

This issue takes place concurrently with Amazing Spider-Man #190 (the Spidey panel is a single panel with no backgrounds and i'm treating it as conceptual, meaning that i haven't listed Spider-Man or the Man-Wolf as characters appearing) and with Avengers #181 (Johnny actually talks to Jarvis, however, so he is included here). For the rest of the FF, issue #205 takes place directly after this issue, but i've separated this out from a long run of FF beginning in #205 and ending in #214. Technically it all happens in direct succession, but since this issue takes place during Amazing Spider-Man #190 and Spidey later appears in that big FF run between Amazing Spider-Man #193-194, i'm keeping this issue separate. Other comics placed between this entry and the #205-214 entry should be thought to be taking place concurrently with that long arc and none of the FF should appear in other comics between this entry and that one.

Amazing Spider-Man 190 (Pages 9-18)

The fight with Man-Wolf is briefly shown in Fantastic Four #204 and prevents Spider-Man from responding to the Human Torch's request for a meeting, so these issues take place concurrently. FF #204 also takes place during Avengers #181 and therefore so does this.

Avengers 182

Hulk Smash Avengers #2 introduces a number of dependencies. See that entry for more details.

Ms. Marvel #23

The Guardians are currently checking out the Collector's ship, as shown in Avengers #181.

Black Panther #14-15

Monica Lynne and Kevin Trublood show up at the Wakandan embassy in this arc, and they wait there until T'Challa returns in Marvel Premiere #51. Windeagle is also lurking around in these issues and attacks at the beginning of that issue. Therefore, these issues take place after the Black Panther's appearance in Marvel Team-up #87, which also takes place at the Wakandan embassy, and Marvel Premiere #51 takes place almost immediately after these issues. And in Marvel Premiere #53, we see a photograph in the Daily Bugle with a credit for Peter Parker. So this whole arc needs to take place before Amazing Spider-Man #193. Another headline in the same newspaper calls Black Panther an ex-Avenger, placing this after Avengers #181. That means the Scarlet Witch is here after deciding to go to Europe with Django Maximoff, but before actually leaving (which is ok; we also see her in Cap #228 and Hulk Smash Avengers #2 before she leaves). Must take place before Klaw's appearance in Marvel Two-In-One #53-58.

Marvel Premiere #51-53

Begins soon after the end of Black Panther #15. If you squint closely at this Daily Bugle image, you'll see that P. Parker is credit with photography. That seemingly innocuous credit forced me to push all of these issues back about a year in publication time, since Peter was with the Daily Globe when these issues were published. I considered just pretending it was an erroneous credit, but what would be the fun in that?
This therefore must take place before Peter Parker is fired from the Daily Bugle in Amazing Spider-Man #193. I've listed Spider-Man as a character appearing, too, since he would have to have been behind the scenes in this story in order to take that picture. As Michael notes below, this same newspaper calls the Panther an ex-Avenger, placing this after Avengers #181.

Amazing Spider-Man #191-192

Pushed back in publication time a bit to allow Fantastic Four #205-214 to take place between Amazing Spider-Man #193-194.

Amazing Spider-Man #193

This takes place soon after ASM #192. Peter is fired from the Daily Bugle

Fantastic Four #205-214 (Iron Man Chronology)

Most of the FF leave with Adora at the end of #204 and shouldn't appear elsewhere between that issue and this arc; the other comics i've placed in between could be thought to be taking place concurrently with this long arc. A Daily Globe article in Amazing Spider-Man #194 references the Spidey/Human Torch fight with the Monocle, so this needs to take place prior to that story but before Amazing Spider-Man #193 since that issue is referenced. Medusa is missing when the Avengers show up in Attilan in Avengers #188, so this needs to take place before that as well.

Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #32-34

This arc begins in the aftermath of the Carrion fight, with Spider-Man dragging himself home. But later he begins his assistant teaching job at ESU, which can't happen until after he gets his diploma, which happens some time after Amazing Spider-Man #191. The MCP places a gap after page six of issue #32, with those six pages taking place directly after Spectacular #31 and the rest between Amazing Spider-man #193-194. Another reason for that placement is the reference to Peter working for the Daily Globe, which happens in Fantastic Four #207 between Amazing Spider-Man #193-194. I'm counting Dr. Sloan's skeleton as an appearance of Swarm.

Amazing Spider-Man #194-195

Having been fired from the Bugle, Peter is working for the Daily Globe, and JJ gets flustered when he sees a front page photo of Spider-Man and the Human Torch fighting the Monocle, from Fantastic Four #207. Peter is worried that JJ unmasked him while he was unconscious in Amazing Spider-Man #192.

Captain America #228 Beast

Kligger announces that he's heading to Gamma Base in Captain America #228. That leads into Hulk #231. Captain America is buried under rubble at the end of this issue and shouldn't appear elsewhere between here and Captain America #229. The Scarlet Witch is among the Avengers seen in Avengers Mansion. At the end of Avengers #182 we saw that she and Quicksilver intended to go to Europe with Django Maximoff, but she hasn't left yet since she appears in Hulk Smash Avengers #2, which takes place circa Cap #229.

Captain America #229-230

Enough time has passed from the end of last issue for Agent Sitwell to arrive from wherever he was talking to Cap over the monitor, inspect the destroyed facility, and leave before Cap pulls himself and Constrictor out of the rubble. The Beast has returned from his date with a hangover (but he apparently managed to pull himself together long enough to sit through a meeting with Gyrich; see below), but Hercules and Thor are still in the middle of their armwrestling match. In Hulk Smash Avengers #2, Captain America is seen participating in a meeting with Gyrich and a few other Avengers (including the Beast, but not Thor or Hercules, who, since Hulk Smash Avengers #2 takes place after Avengers #182, are not actually members of the team at this point and i guess are just hanging out at the mansion) before declaring that he has to go out west to talk to the SHIELD super-agents in order to find the Falcon. Cap decides to go out west at the beginning of issue #229, so this all means that Cap's participation in Hulk Smash Avengers must take place during issue #229; i've decided that after finding his apartment in shambles, Cap goes to the Avengers mansion and finds himself pulled in to the meeting with Gyrich. He says he has to go out west. Then he tries to commandeer a Quinjet and Gyrich refuses. The scene of Cap bursting in on the Avengers asking for help then takes place after that (the original intention was that this story took place before the Avengers' security clearance was restored).
This story continues directly in Hulk #232. The rest of Hulk Smash #2, which features a small team of Avengers (not including Cap) fighting the Hulk, must take place during Cap's bus ride, meaning by the time Cap runs into the Hulk he's just met a bunch of other Avengers.

Hulk #230

his fits in well after the Hulk has jumped off in disgust after the events of Defenders #62-64. This begins a tight sequence for the Hulk; see the Hulk Smash Avengers #2 entry for more.

Hulk #231

Takes place after Kligger announces he's leaving for Gamma Base in Captain America #228, and more or less concurrently with Captain America #229, culminating in a crossover in Captain America #230 and Hulk #232.

Machine Man's appearances take place in between Jack Kirby and Wolfman/Ditkos runs on Machine Man (i.e., between Machine Man #9-10). The Hulk has been launched into space at the end of this arc and will next appear in Hulk annual #8, so he shouldn't appear anywhere in between.

Marvel Team-Up #80-81

Peter Parker is dating Cissy Ironwood. The Marvel Index says that this issue takes place "within the space of a few days" of Marvel Team-Up #76-77. Spider-Man only says that "it wasn't long ago". By following the Index, the MCP has a number of Team-Up issues compressed into a short period of time. I should also note that i find the Index to be overly concerned with matching up the weather and seasons in various books and there are a number of Marvel Team-Up placements around this time that are compressed or even out of order because of that. I'm choosing to let "wasn't long ago" be a longer period than the Index.

Re: Draft period from 1977 to 1980

list edited with the latest changes and adjustments. The presence of Jameson and Robertson at the daily Bugle in Marvel Premiere 49, allows to be able to logically place the episodes of the Avengers after Avengers 188 in the rest of the timeline of 1980.

Indeed after some searchs, this episode of Marvel Premiere, for reasons of narrative logic of the return of Jameson in good health only after ASM 207 does not allow this issue of Marvel Premiere to be placed between ASM197 and 207 where robertson and jameson are scrambled.

and for other reasons related to other series which are reflected by this event, we cannot place this issue before.the break after avengers 188 makes it possible to place the other appearances of the avengers out of their series without problem. obviously it is still an evolving list

If i remember correctly, this Falcon story was plotted by Mark Evanier, drawn then the artwork was lost. It was redrawn by Sal Buscema and scripted by whoever is listed. So this story, a out-of-continuity fill-in created to ease deadlines whenever they would pop up (probably for Captain America's book). So placement is going to be difficult, and any solution you come up with probably won't fit easily, so just go with what ever fits the best and ignore the rest.

Indeed, the placement was very difficult *brickwall* but fill in or not this is a story who must appear in a way to could satisfy the continuity of all characters in a moment of time. I've tried tu pull that story before avengers 188 but that doesn't work with the spider man continuty :sigh:

So the suggestion to put this after asm 207 made by Michael in supermegamonkey satisfy well all the things thanks to him

And most important give a clue for the placement for the chronology of avengers characters in that moment who works well i think
