I'm preparing a new post for my Marvelous Zone blog, and I've run into a grammar issue that, frankly, I'm amazed I haven't thought of before. But this time, I need to decided between "The Fantastic Four IS" and "The Fantastic Four ARE." Which is correct? Is (or "are") the Fantastic Four singular or plural? What is the correct way to talk about them?
Obviously if you are referring to a movie, you would say, "The movie, The Fantastic Four, IS..." but when the Fantastic Four is/are doing something, what is the proper way?
When the Fantastic Four HEAR about it, they leap into action!
or
When the Fantastic Four HEARS about it, they leap into action!
The internet seems to be split on this issue. Just wanting to pick a few Marvel brains to see if you all have any preferences or guidance. Thanks!

Both.
If you refer to the members, you will say "are."
If you refer to the comic book, you will say "is."
If you refer to the team, you can say both (collective noun).
