Mastermind FB in New Avengers #9

I have since read New Avengers #9 and I note that the exerpt regarding Mastermind and the General has not been placed as a flashback, (at least not in the available years listed). Can anyone hazard a guess as to when the General defeated the Sentry? Is it perhaps as soon as a few weeks before New Avengers #1? I know why the General defeated the Sentry, because the General was a villain and all he wanted was the satisfaction of defeating the Sentry. But this must have happened before Mastermind died, so is there an issue this must have been before while Mastermind was still alive? In most of Bendis's accounts, he cites the general amnesia amongst the population due to the Sentry causing memory of himself to be erased. Was the memory erasing device from Jenkins first Sentry mini, anything to do with this?
